Children's swing from wood is original and reliable, as they are easy to make by themselves.

Preparatory Assembly Phase

A drawing of the structure is shown in figure 1. Such wooden swings, made in the form of an airplane, are intended for a child aged 1 to 5 years.

Their seat is designed to provide comfort and complete safety for the baby.

And for very young children you can make a chair in the form of a flower. Such sides protect the child from accidental falls.

The height of the swing frame should be 200 cm. The posts are dug to a depth of 90 cm and additionally reinforced with concrete.

These children's swings are made up of the following elements:

  • A - pillars of a frame with a diameter of 15 cm and a length of 300 cm - 2 pcs .;
  • B - transverse crossbeam of the frame size 40x35x17 cm;
  • C - the seat of the swing 40х35х1,7 cm;
  • D - horizontal protective bar (wing of the aircraft) 45х11х1,7 cm;
  • E - backrest (stabilizer) 29х11х1,7 sm;
  • F - vertical front racks 19х10х1,7 cm - 2 pcs .;
  • G - vertical front carrier (fuselage) 19x10x17 cm;
  • H - seating position 19x60x1.7 cm - 2 pcs.

  • A concrete mortar to strengthen the frame racks;
  • wood for frame construction. It is more reasonable to take impregnated pine, protected from environmental influences;
  • joiner glue;
  • Fastening elements (bolts, screws, self-tapping screws);
  • fixing bolts-hooks, equipped with washers and nuts;
  • reliable carbines. With their help you fasten the ropes to the seat of the swing, therefore, when choosing the carabiners, pay attention to their quality;
  • cord for attaching the seat to the frame. It can be replaced by a chain, but experts do not recommend this method, since children's fingers or palms can get between the links;
  • priming on wood and acrylic paints.

When everything is prepared, you can start assembling the wooden swing.

Assembly and installation of the frame

Children's swing by their own hands: schemes and assembly

Scheme assembly swing frame.

Before installing children's wooden swing, you must carefully choose a place for them. Free space in front of the structure should not be less than 2-2.5 m. Behind the swing there must also be a platform, free of bushes and trees (about 1.5-1.9 m). When considering the future scheme of the swing, allow for a sufficient distance between the seat and the frame posts. In this case, it is 60 cm on each side. Therefore, the supporting pillars are digged in at a distance of 162 cm from each other.

To fix the pillars, you will need to dig pits with a diameter of 30 cm and a depth of 90-100 cm. When choosing a place for a swing, make sure that under the future construction there are no underground communications and mains (telephone cables, water pipes and the like).

The transverse beam of the swing frame is assembled from 2 boards with a width of 14 cm and a thickness of 4.2 cm. It is fastened to the posts by means of grooves that are sawed in logs. On the beam itself, it is also necessary to form grooves on both sides. First, apply a marking to all the parts of the nodes and only then proceed to sawing the grooves 2.9 cm wide and 15 cm long. After securing the pillars of the frame, cut the grooves with the circular saw to the maximum possible depth, and then finish the grooving with a hacksaw on the tree.

In order to select the wood for the entire depth of the future groove, two holes are drilled in the poles at the corners of the marking. Then, using a chisel, a depression is formed.

The boards from which the transverse beam will be made will be cut to a length of 220 cm. Then they are tightened by means of screws and from both ends mark the studs for attachment to the pillars of the frame. Dimensions of the studs should coincide with the dimensions of the grooves and be the same on both sides: 15x2.9 cm. They are easier to saw with a circular saw, and then modify the chisel. Try to treat the surface as smoothly as possible. Check the fixings made before assembling the frame. The spikes of the transverse beam must enter the grooves with some force.

Installation of poles for the frame

Children's swing by their own hands: schemes and assembly

Scheme of installation of poles for a frame of a swing.

Dig out the indentations for the installation of poles. Be sure to check the position of the vertical racks with the help of the building level. Some masters for such designs use pipes made of metal. But experts do not recommend doing a swing for the child from this material. Pipes can bend or even crack, but with wooden pillars this will not happen. Replace a worn out wooden rack is much easier and cheaper than a metal frame.

Install the poles in prepared grooves. Fix their positions using wooden pegs or trimming planks. After that, check again the correctness of the positioning of the racks by the building level. Then pour a concrete solution into the pits so that its surface does not reach 2-3 cm to the ground level. Be sure to perforate the poured concrete, making sure that the basement of the swing is not emptied.

To avoid errors when installing the frame, it is wiser to first fix one column, and only then pour the solution of the second. So you can adjust their height, if necessary.

After the solution has fully seized, fasten the upper crossbeam in the grooves and pull the pillar and spike of the beam with long self-tapping screws. Prime the entire frame and paint in the color you selected. To make a swing with your own hands, acrylic paints are best.

Assembling the swing seat

Children's swing by their own hands: schemes and assembly

Scheme of sitting of a swing.

After the pillars of the frame are fixed, you can proceed to assemble the seat. The seats are assembled according to one principle, but a swing in the form of an airplane is more suitable for older boys, whereas a flower is chosen for younger children. If you have 2 kids, you can make 2 seats and change them as needed.

Figured blanks are cut from a sheet of plywood according to the pattern schemes proposed above. To do this, first marking, and then cut the workpiece with a jig saw. Carefully cut all sections with sandpaper so that no burrs remain.

First, vertical cross-struts are attached to the seat. Spread the joints with glue before pulling the parts together with screws: the wooden swing will be much safer. In the same way, assemble all the workpieces of the seat. Pull the fastening points with the clamps and leave until the glue dries completely.

Then, in the wings and fuselage of the aircraft, it is necessary to drill holes for fastening ropes. The diameter of the hole, and accordingly, the diameter of the drill depends on the thickness of the cord with which you are going to attach the seat to the frame. Wings are drilled through and through, forming 1 hole on each side of the parts. It turns out 8 holes.

The seat in the form of a flower is collected in a similar way. The most reasonable way is to cut the seat back from the plywood first, and then, using it as a template, to form the sidewalls. However, make sure that the backrest is 2.5 mm above the side walls.

Sidewalls and back are attached to the seat in such a way that the petals protrude beyond the edges. Holes for fastening ropes are drilled in the seat itself about 10 cm from the edge and in the curly back.

If your children are not yet too confident to stay on the swing, it is more reasonable to equip the seats with additional safety belts. For them it is best to choose braided slings, fastened to ordinary carabiners or belt fasteners. Set the transverse straps so that they pass at the level of the child's belt.

Assembling all parts of the structure

Children's swing by their own hands: schemes and assembly

Scheme of the size of the structure of the swing.

The assembled seat must be carefully treated with sandpaper or a special grinding nozzle, primed and painted.

To fix the bolt-hooks, it is necessary to pre-drill holes for them in the transverse beam of the swing frame at a distance of 20 cm from the center of the crossbeam. Insert the hook into the socket, from above put the washer on it. Use one key to tighten the lower nut. Then, holding the lower nut, securely tighten the upper fastening (lock nut).

Attach one end of the rope to the hook, securing it with a secure knot. When choosing a cord, remember that the softer and more flexible the rope, the more reliable the knot will come out. But still it is wiser to give preference to braided cords. The most reliable is the so-called tie knot (in the same way, men's ties are tied). You can first attach the rope to the carbine, and attach the carabiner to the hook. This way of fixing will allow you to change seats much more quickly.

Free ends of the rope must be passed through the holes in the swing seat. This is easier if the ends of the cord are prewound with paint tape. Tie a rope a reliable knot so that it does not untie under the weight of the child.

While securing the seat, make sure that the distance from the bottom of the swing to the ground is 35-40 cm.
