Hole for mixer in kitchen sink
Making a hole for the mixer installation
At present, many models of sinks with a symmetrical shape have appeared. Such washes are extremely convenient, since they can be installed both on the left side and on the right side.
To ensure that the sink can be installed on either side, it does not make an outlet for the mixer during manufacture.
It is assumed that the hole for the mixer of the required diameter will be made immediately before the installation of sanitary ware. On the one hand, it is very convenient, because it is not always possible to pick up a sink with ready-made output due to the discrepancy in the parameters.
In most ready-to-install kitchen sinks, the factory output is 32 mm, while the mixer diameter can be more than 34 mm. Currently, versions of sinks are available without a ready-made outlet both from stainless steel and from ceramics. For many, making a hole of the required diameter may seem simply an impossible task, but in this case there are a number of measures that can be taken.
In some points of sales of such washes, it is possible to use the services of specialists: they will select the outlet for the mixer of the desired diameter, they will do everything with the help of special tools. But such services are not available everywhere, and owners of sinks without a ready exit to the mixer will have to do it themselves.
Immediately it is necessary to say that it is possible to make a neat hole only in stainless steel, while on a kitchen sink from granite or ceramics to conduct experiments is fraught, since the material can crack.
Work on making outlets for communications in a ceramic sink must be done as carefully as possible, so as not to spoil the appearance of the shell. If possible, you need to purchase tools: for stainless steel special cutters are used to make holes, for ceramics it is best to use drills with diamond dusting. Drill ceramic plumbing with an ordinary drill will not work, as the ceramics just crack. However, it is quite possible to manage some improvised means, but it is necessary to act very carefully.
Hole for mixer in stainless steel sink
There are several proven ways to drill an even hole in a stainless steel. Immediately it is worth noting that you can not make a way out for the faucet in the already installed plumbing, because because of the support on the tabletop it is likely that the plumbing will crack. Before carrying out the work, the sink must be turned upside down so that all its edges rest on the surface of the table, and only then proceed to the work.
If there is an opportunity to purchase or rent a special cutter for making holes, it will not be difficult to carry out the work. First of all, you need to make the initial hole with a drill and drill 10 mm. Then the screw of the torch is inserted and with the help of 2 keys it is tightened, thus it turns out that the metal is squeezed from 2 sides and pressed through the press method. The diameter may vary depending on the type of cutter used. If there is no opportunity to purchase a special device, you can resort to other methods.
So, in order to make an outlet for communication of the desired diameter in a stainless steel sink without the use of special tools, the following tools and materials will be needed:
- mounting scotch;
- a hammer;
- round file;
In order for the diameter to correspond to the norm, first of all it is necessary to make a circle of the correct size and shape from the mounting tape. The cut circle should be attached to the selected place under the mixer and circled with a marker to further cut a smooth hole. In addition, it is necessary to mark the center to make the opening hole by the punch. The point of the punch should be directed to the center of the circle from the mounting tape and with light tapping to pierce the opening. If there is a drill, you can drill it. Further, the initial opening must be expanded by a circular file to the boundaries noted earlier.
Just drill the outlet under the mixer in a stainless steel sink is not enough, because the edges can turn out to be curved, and aligning them later will be very problematic. After you get to the mixer of the desired diameter, you need to carefully sand the edges of the saw, then you can proceed with the installation. To prevent further oxidation of the metal, the edges of the fresh cut must be treated with a sealant. After it has solidified, you can proceed with the installation of the sink.
